Barbering addition – 2026 Vet in Schools Program
If you’re enrolled in Years 10–12 in 2026, your subject selections are more than just boxes to tick — they’re your opportunity to shape your future. And now, for the first time, students undertaking the VET – Certificate II in Salon Assistant (SHB20216) at Clip Joiint Education can choose a focus area: either hairdressing or barbering.
The qualification prepares students to provide assistance to hairdressers or barbers in a salon environment. Course units include elements of styling, basin services, applying colour, and completing in-store operational and sales duties. Upon successful completion, VET graduates will receive a nationally recognised qualification that can be used to seek after-school employment, gain up to 45 SACE credits, or lead directly to a hairdressing or barbering apprenticeship.
Whichever focus area you choose, you will be:

✅ Learning from industry experts with real-world experience
✅ Earning SACE credits as part of your school studies*
✅ Graduating with a nationally recognised qualification that’s respected across Australia

What Is It Like Studying the Certificate II in Salon Assistant?
Hear it first-hand from VET course graduate, Breanne (pictured)
“Doing the VET Certificate II in Salon Assistant at Clip Joint was such a game-changer for me. In Year 11, I got to swap a day at school for learning at the Clip Joint Academy and working in a real salon – it honestly didn’t even feel like school! I learnt so many practical skills and got to see what salon life was really like before I’d even finished high school. When I started my apprenticeship, I already felt confident, had a range of skills and knew exactly what to expect. Now I’m working full time as a qualified hairdresser, and I know I wouldn’t be where I am without starting with VET. It set me up for everything I’m doing today and got me where I wanted to be quicker.”
